About the Competition

This competition is open only to Victorian-based members of the Victorian Racing Media Association.

Two competitions will operate concurrently on nominated VRC racemeetings run at Flemington only - 18 meetings in total as listed below:

Competition No.1 - Top Tips

how it works

Entrants to select up to three horses in each race in order (2nd or 3rd selections to be used only if first selection is scratched). One of your selections is to be nominated as your Top Tip of the day (this selection will earn bonus points if successful).

points

  • One point will be awarded for each winner selected
  • Top Tips to be awarded two (2) bonus points if successful i.e. you will earn three (3) points for that race (if nominated Top Tip is scratched, your substitute runner in that race will become your Top Tip)
  • In the event of a dead-heat, a winning selection will receive 0.5 pt. A Top Tip which dead-heats will receive 1.5 pts.

how to submit entries

Entries for the Top Tips competition can only be submitted by:

  • By email to Terry Clifton (preferred option)
  • SMS or voicemail - 0400 017 606
  • Fax - 9376 5148
  • Phone/Voicemail - 8378 0603

Entries must be received by no later than 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the first race or in person to Terry Clifton (or any other VRC staff member) at the racecourse prior to the first race.

Please note:

  1. It is important to clearly indicate your Top Tip as it can earn you bonus points
  2. The VRC will not record tips from newspapers or websites for the competition
  3. It is preferred for you to use numbers rather than names when submitting selections although you can use both if cutting and pasting
  4. Submitted tips will be posted on the VRC website as soon as is practicable on each raceday.

Prizemoney will now be paid down to 3rd place to the leading point scorers at the end of the season as follows:

Progressive results will be posted on the website as soon as is practicable after each race meeting and will also be emailed.

Competition No.2 - Pick the card

how it works

  • A prize of $1000 will be offered to anyone who "picks the card" at one of the designated Flemington racemeetings. If more than one person "picks the card" during the season, the prize will be shared.
  • If no one "picks the card", the prize will be paid to the person picking the most winners in a day at one of the designated racemeetings.
  • If more than one person has picked the equal number of winners, the prize will be awarded to the person who picked the least number of losers on the day e.g. someone who picked five winners on a 7-race program would be deemed to be the winner over someone who picked five winners on an 8 or 9-race program.
  • If there is still more than one winner, the prize will be shared
